SBCOE Mental Health Providers

Overview


The SBCOE Mental Health Team consists of 6 mental health providers serving all rural school districts within San Benito County as well as Aromas San Juan Unified School District and two schools within Hollister Elementary School District (Cerra Vista and Maze) in addition to serving students at San Andreas, Pinnacles, Youth Services Center and Santa Ana Alternative Schools. The team strives to serve as experts in the field, leading the charge on many mental health initiatives county-wide, including the Mental Health Provider Network, led by Director of Prevention and Intervention, Amber Lister, and Mental Health Coordinator, Adina Austin.

Scope of Practice

  • Conduct school wide mental health assets and needs assessments using the Multi-tiered System of School Mental Health Supports framework
  • Provide student, parent, and staff training and education on mental health related topics emphasizing stigma reduction
  • Promote parent engagement in the educational process and provide parent education programs 
  • Provide mental health consultation to school staff
  • Promote mental health and wellbeing through school wide outreach campaigns, events, workshops, classroom-based learning, and resource fairs
  • Conduct trainings to address barriers to learning and restore and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment for staff, students, and parents
  • Utilize a strengths and asset-based and data driven approach to individual, family and school community wellness
  • Provide short-term individual, group and family counseling utilizing evidence based and/or evidence informed practices
  • Provide case management services to students and families.
  • Collaborate with school partners, districts and community organizations to address student and family needs.
